Chapter 14

Jasper paced from one end of the living room to the other, grumbling to himself. He glanced at his watch and adjusted his tux jacket. The black bowtie around his neck seemed to grow tighter with each breath. He hated these parties, and he hated to wait on anyone. He turned to the bedroom door, his bedroom door, in disbelief after ten more minutes passed.

Nena had invaded his home by invitation and embarked on the most hostile takeover he’d ever witnessed. Every Christmas decoration known to man now resided in his house. His housekeeper even asked her for menu suggestions. Freshly baked cookies, candies, and bowls of fruit sat on his once cleared countertops. The Christmas tree hung full of candy canes and ornaments.

Jasper ran one big hand over his face. How did this happen? Nena tormented him with her sweet smiles and curves. She slept cuddled into his side every night because he wanted her there. Dresses hung beside the expensive suits in the closet. Her sweet scent filled his nostrils with every breath.

A deep sigh fell from his lips when he picked up the single red rose, he purchased for Nena on the way home. He asked the florist to leave the thorns on the thick stem because they reminded him of the prickly beauty in his house. A beautiful, foul-mouthed tease consumed his life, and he liked it.

He twirled the rose between his fingers with a frown. Gifts were not something he ever did for anyone, but here he stood, staring into the barely opened bloom like a lovesick puppy, thinking of her. He could growl all day long, but the truth was he wanted Nena here, needed to have her beneath him, moaning and begging for his cock. She had his mind so unbalanced and disordered, he didn’t know what he wanted anymore. After years of asking for nothing, he even sought his mother’s help, and asked her to send everything Nena might need for toiletries.

Jasper still cringed at the memory of his mother’s knowing smile. It was what she didn’t say that irked him. His mother was as crazy as Nena.

This self-imposed tortured dominated his life. He couldn’t concentrate on work because Nena filled his thoughts. His fingers on her bare back, womanly curves plastered against his own, the twinkle in her golden-brown eyes when teasing him or his friends, and the looks other men gave her, all sent his blood simmering through his veins. Nena kept him on the edge, and for some reason he enjoyed every second even though he didn’t know what to do about it. No woman had ever twisted him like this.

Jasper placed the rose inside his tux inner pocket. It was a ridiculous idea, and he wasn’t going to give it to her. The bedroom door creaked open, breaking into his thoughts. Jasper’s mouth dropped open and snapped shut. Nena poised in the doorway, wearing a stunning, white, chiffon gown that fell to the floor in multiple soft layers.
